News Associates graduate Powling recognised for outstanding journalism logbook

News Associates graduate Joshua Powling has been recognised for his first three years on the job by the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

Powling graduated from our fast-track course in Manchester in summer 2011 and joined the staff of West Sussex County Times as junior reporter.

His logbook, essentially a portfolio of stories, was praised by assessors of the National Qualification for Journalists as ‘one of the best’ they had ever seen.

“I feel really honoured to have been given this great award for my logbook,” he said.

“It would, however, be remiss of me not to acknowledge those who made it possible – not least my chief reporter Ollie McAteer.

“The County Times is a tremendous newspaper and media centre. It not only gives huge journalistic opportunities but sets the very highest professional editorial standards, especially in the field of training, and I thank my editor-in-chief Gary Shipton and Johnston Press for their terrific commitment to this.”

Richard Parsons, the course director at News Associates, said: “Joshua was an exceptionally talented trainee who we knew was going to go on to be a great success.
