Why News Associates? By Richard Parsons, Director of Training

Richard Parsons News Associates Why study journalism at News Associates?

By Richard Parsons, Director of Training

The lure of journalism is undiminished - even in the difficult times we have all been through.

Perhaps those that have seen their working lives change can be forgiven their cynicism - it’s an ever-changing industry - but that message has certainly not fed through to a new generation who want to experience what we have all described at some time in our working lives as THE BEST JOB THERE IS!

Demand for places on journalism courses continues to grow and those of us in training are determined to offer successful applicants a view of a changing industry where versatility and open-minded thinking are the supplements to good old-fashioned skills.

Editors are telling us they want newcomers who are comfortable in new media but who also have the solid foundation of story-construction, shorthand, law - and, most critically of all, the ability to go out and find a story.

The trick for those of us within the NCTJ family is to prepare trainees for the workplace with the best exam results they can achieve - but also to make them enterprising all-rounders who don’t need the newsdesk diary to keep themselves busy all day.

We are proud to play a leading role in helping the industry’s training body reshape its curriculum.

We also pride ourselves on the individual attention we can offer those studying to take their place in this most satisfying and exciting of professions.
