When one becomes two

Week seven commences at News Associates, and we’re living in the aftermath of a shorthand shake up.

The decision to split us into ability groups was met with mixed reactions from the start, and the same can be said for the outcome

A full week after the new classes were born the shellshock remains evident.

Many were, and still are, unsure as to whether they’d rather be in group one or group two. Throw in the fact that group one now works at 80 words per minute, and most people would probably say the latter.

The end of the textbook wasn’t quite the celebrated event we’d hoped for – if we thought remembering all the theory was hard enough it turns out speed building is a killer.

Regardless of how you look at it, it can’t be denied that the amount we’ve learnt in such a short space of time is impressive. Whichever group we’ve found ourselves in, we’re undoubtedly in a far better position for a career in journalism than we were at the beginning of September.

Plus as scary as it is to accept, time continues to tick by. We’re a third of the way through the course already and advancing at great speed towards the real world.

Better to pull our socks up now then than when it’s too late?
