Relentless pace and painful wrists

This week has felt like a continuation of the last. Nothing much has changed. Angela has cruelly maintained our relentless pace of learning with no sympathy for my long-term hopes of avoiding arthritis.

I barely get time to draw breath before we move on to a new passage and I get the impression that this is how we will carry on until we pass our 100 wpm exam.

Things have started to get out of hand.

I have developed a really annoying habit of writing to instead of the - this will mean nothing to those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of attempting to learn shorthand but trust me it is very irritating.

And to make matters worse the outlines are slowly replacing my longhand. My ability to write the letter T without thinking about it has deserted me and I can no longer write a. It’s a worrying development and I can’t see things improving.

I have been trying to get on top of things outside the classroom by doing at least one hour of practice a day in my own time. This is really helping and I am determined to keep it up.

Motivation can sometimes be an issue. When I am struggling to find it I remind myself that the more practice I do the more likely I am to pass sooner. I’ve set myself the lofty goal of being ready to sit the exam before Christmas.

It would be a huge relief to get it out of the way but even if I’m not ready it’s worth it. The more on top of things I get now the more time I will create to revise for PA and Law exams, which we sit at the beginning of December.

I do feel like I have made some steps in the right direction this week. I am beginning to get down more of every passage that is dictated but I do need to concentrate on improving some of my outlines.
