The night before the shorthand exam on Friday 3rd December I and a few others decided, instead of battling home in the snow, to read passages to each other.
Different voices have different effects and reading a passage made me realise how slow 100 words a minute was in comparison to normal speech.
One person dictated at approximately 200 words a minute. That was quite funny and interesting at the same time.
The exam was a strange experience. It is approximately 50 minutes of intense work and any lapse in concentration over the four minutes of dictation will cost you dearly.
After exams there is the standard discussion about the exam and some people know already if they have failed. Others are less certain and the waiting game begins.
The successful candidates from other centres appeared on the NCTJ website on Friday night.
This obviously got my hopes up that I would find out soon, only to be disappointed as I write this.
At various moments on my trip to Southampton on Saturday I was checking my phone to see if they had come through.
Another three points for the mighty Brentford certainly made the wait slightly more bearable.
Tomorrow I hope to find out that I do not have to take the exam again.
