NEWS Associates graduate Rachel Bull has been named as the NCTJ Student Journalist of the Year - the most prestigious prize in their annual Awards for Excellence.
WINNERS: News Associates trainee reporters Rachel Bull and Josh Burrows were among the winners at the NCTJ Awards for Excellence in Journalism
Rachel received the honour for her performance across all examined modules and is the latest in a long line of News Associates trainees to secure top prizes at the UK’s leading student journalism awards.
Indeed News Associates was the only NCTJ accredited training centre to have two winners this year.
Another News Associates graduate, Josh Burrows (The Times), was also named Sports Journalist of the Year at the Society of Editors conference in Glasgow.
The awards were presented by Simon Bucks, associate editor at Sky News following a congratulatory speech from Joanne Butcher, NCTJ chief executive.
Earlier this year former trainee Lindsay Watling, now a reporter at the Press and Journal, won the NCTJ’s top shorthand prize while three trainees were successful in last year’s Awards for Excellence - Emily Koch (Bristol Evening Post), George Scott (Eurosport) and David Jordan (Sportsbeat).
