Hannah Scott (now Sunday Times) is to be awarded the annual NCTJ prize for best shorthand note and transcription at 100 per cent accuracy for 100wpm.
Hannah, who completed her NCTJ with News Associates part-time between January-November 2010, will be presented with a certificate and cheque for £250 at a shorthand seminar in June.
Hannah said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive this award, although I was very surprised when I heard the news.
“It has made the hours of practice I did on the train worth it.
“I would like to thank all my tutors at News Associates for their support in helping me to achieve the elusive 100wpm!”
Previous News Associates trainees to receive recognition for their shorthand by the NCTJ include Lindsay Watling (now Aberdeen Press & Journal) who scooped up the prize for best shorthand note and transcription at 110-120wpm.
Jo Carter (now ESPN) also won the NCTJ prize for completing a passage at 120wpm with no mistakes.
Course Director Richard Parsons said: “We are proud that News Associates’ trainees continue to be awarded for their hard work and determination in shorthand.”
