Time has an uncanny knack of speeding up at the wrong moments as does our shorthand teacher Angela when she decided to up the tempo this week from 90 words a minute to the dreaded 100.
It seems as if the two months we've been learning shorthand has blown by in a breeze of hastily scribbled outlines and transcriptions so gap-ridden it's like someone released more documents on MPs' expenses.
Suddenly we're facing the early shorthand exam in two weeks and have little over a month to prepare for our other subjects.
Despite the sudden onslaught of exams, News Associates prepares you well for them. We have a shorthand library with extra passages to help us practise at speed, and shorthand retakes are free, as long as you are on the course.
Now we're going faster, I'm really glad we covered the theory so comprehensively – you have no time to consider what you're writing at 100 words per minute, so you can't have a breather and think about shortcuts and word endings.
I suppose the only way to deal with a faster clock is to really put in the work required of you in the run-up to the exams – at least the ticks will be a lot more satisfying once they're over.
